Friggot / Shrugg Binge

By: Richard Seeley
Label: Veryverywrongindeed Recordings
Written by: mitch
Rating: 9/10

Tim Sheridan's VVWI label has managed, in a short space of time, to stand out from the over saturated DC10 inspired techno market by being that litlle bit more warped & surreal than everyone else. From the Victorian freakshow artwork through to the choice of producers on board, the whole ethos is dark humoured and twisted.

Richard Seeley follows on here from the label's debut release Juicy Vermin  with two more slices of top drawer weirdness. Even the titles are odd.

First track Friggot is a relentless and unforgiving example of Seeley's tight production skills. Intricate drum patterns are layered with ominous analogue synth stabs, effected tribal percussion and the occasional sound of heavy breathing. Could well be the soundtrack to aliens having a tribal dance on the moon.

Shrugg Binge is a far more subdued track. Warm resonating pulse, deep kick drum, clicks and rythymic popping is all there is to this track, but again done with enough confidence and skill to ensure that it works well.

Two great examples of minimalism that further lend to the idea that Richard Seeley is the David Lynch of Techno.
